They are available in different styles – you have your choice of either the full sized wagon, which resembles a larger van, or a lorry, which is a cab and trailer. You might even find a converted bus or truck. Whichever style you choose, you want to make sure that it has all the essential equipment needed to run your small business.
Make sure that the truck has a canopy. This will come in handy for those hot summer days when you might want to park your truck for long periods of time near a sporting event or maybe even a 4th of July celebration. Providing shade from the scorching sun will help increase sales, while at the same time showing consideration to your customers.
You need to make sure that the truck has a ballast for nighttime lighting and an inverter to power up the equipment that needs electricity. It is essential that you also have a sink, a holding tank, a serving window, a freezer for your frozen goods and a music kit. You might even want to get one with a soft serve machine or maybe even a coffee maker.
When looking for a used ice cream truck, make a list of your likes and dislikes for each style of truck. If the truck does not come equipped with everything you would like, find out if it is possible to purchase the items separately and then have them installed. If so, how much will the modifications cost?
